How Hodder is Supporting Watoto’s Mission

Watoto is a family made of people from all over the world who are working together to ensure that the forgotten have a place to belong. Since its inception in 1984, during Uganda’s civil war, the organization has been rescuing orphaned and abandoned children, providing them with loving families, education, and healthcare. Through its efforts, Watoto is nurturing Africa’s future leaders and making a positive impact in the lives of many.

Watoto has established villages where children are raised by lifelong mothers, providing them with the love and support they need to grow and thrive. The organization also focuses on rescuing abandoned babies and providing adult literacy, business training, and job opportunities for women. Its “Keep a Girl in School” program is designed to help girls stay in school and become less vulnerable to human trafficking and abuse.

Watoto’s work has been supported by people from all over the world, including Ben Wendland, CEO of Hodder Tugboat Company, who became involved in the organization in 1998. Ben currently serves on Watoto’s Canadian, American, and International boards.

One of the primary ways Watoto has been introduced worldwide is through the visiting children’s choirs that tour different countries. The organization’s sponsorship program is the main source of support for its work. In 2004, Ben and Ian introduced Watoto to Hodder, and the company has wholeheartedly embraced the opportunity to support this meaningful work. Hodder employees and the company itself continue to provide monthly support to Watoto.
